Freshman Fifteen

September 17, 2013 in Foodland Chronicles, Uncategorized, Weight Management by Joyce Bunderson

Remember when the Freshman 15 was the Freshman 10? As history goes on things just have gotten bigger and bigger in many ways. Although Wikipedia says that the Freshman 15 is really not a gain of a full fifteen pounds on average, of course, some students do gain weight. The Wikipedia article is really quite well-written.

In addition, an excellent resource has come to my attention from the author of The Best Regimen for College Fitness.  It has great graphics; is easy to follow and is perfect for anyone, college student or not, wanting to keep from gaining weight.

Don't forget, to keep a focus on intake, as well as exercise. Most college students or young people just beginning to live on their own, don't have time to exercise for many hours a day, so they can't just forget about intake. The knowledge of the results of poor food choices will come rapidly, if a scale is used. Changing from mom's homemade foods to cafeteria or fast food style eating is beset with opportunities for weight gain.

If you want to avoid this problem, take a proactive step in the right direction by learning about what you can do. You can use the resources on this website and The Best Regimen for College Fitness.
